Halter Training/Catch Rope

This is a wonderful tool for catching your alpacas and teaching them to wear a halter. The catch rope is made of nylon marine rope with a solid brass hook hand spliced in one end with a brass ring attached to the rope. This training rope can be fashioned into a pre-halter that is easier for young or frightened animals to accept.
ITEM ENHANCEMENT! For those of you that are challenged by knots, we have added a ring to the catch rope that takes the place of the overhand knot. This ring acts as a slider and can be easily removed if you prefer to adjust the rope the old way.

Cria Halter

This cria halter has a velcro noseband to make adjustment easy on a small cria head. It is single webbing instead of the double found on the other Zephyr farm halters to make it lighter. It will fit cria younger than 6 months.

Halters

Buying a halter that fits properly is possibly the most important thing you can do for the safety and comfort of your alpaca. Halter fit profoundly affects your alpaca’s attitude and performance. For safe halter fit, the nose band must rest on bone and stay there even under adverse conditions, i.e. when your alpaca bucks on the lead, resists being tied, bolts or becomes tangled in a stake line. A halter should be comfortable and should not interfere with your alpaca’s ability to yawn, eat or ruminate. A halter should also serve as an effective tool of communication particularly if your animal is in training.

The Zephyr halter has the maximum amount of adjustability in both the nose band and the crown piece. It is proportioned so that it will stay well up on the nose bone for your animal’s safety when properly fitted. The Zephyr halter is also designed with side rings on the nose band that can be used for leading. Signals given in this location can often prevent negative leading behaviors from developing or fix habitual resistance when it exists. Get one of each size and you can properly fit every animal on your property. Halter fit is covered extensively in Marty McGee’s book, The Camelid Companion (ch 8).

The Halter Helper is a great way to halter animals when you no longer need the length of the Catch/Training Rope. It is also extremely useful when working with volatile animals.

Zephyr Training Lead

This is the original, signature lead with a new name. The 9-foot Zephyr Training Lead features 21 inches of high quality nylon rope spliced to 88 inches of flat, soft, nylon lead. The rope end allows you to use the lead for a variety of tasks as well as making the lead lighter and less visually obvious when attached to the side nose band ring on the halter. A lightweight but strong brass snap is hand-spliced into the rope, making a smooth, very lightweight lead.

Zephyr Ultimate Lead

Whether you are training weanlings, staking your alpaca out or simply going for a stroll and want to offer your buddy a bit more freedom to wander, you will want a Zephyr Ultimate Lead. This is actually two leads in one. You can use the regular lead (9 feet) or attach the extender with the fastex buckle and have a 17-foot lead. This longer lead allows you to be further away from your alpaca reducing the chances of a blow-up and...if it does happen, you will have more time to react. This lead is particularly useful for rehabilitating alpacas who have learned to cush instead of follow on the lead. No more wrenched shoulders. TTEAM Wand*

These are invaluable tools for herding and sorting your animals. The wand allows you to touch and guide your alpaca from outside his flight zone.
By using the wand you won't crowd your animals and make them nervous and reactive.
These wands are ideal for leading, initial work with legs, and for teaching your alpaca to accept handling all over the body. They are especially useful for fearful animals. For herding and sorting you will want two wands.
The fiberglass wand is 4 feet long and white in color for greater visibility. The wand’s balance and stiffness set it apart from other options and make it much more effective for training.
The wand features a flat button on the end rather than a handle, excellent for scooping up dropped lead ropes.

Toenail Nippers

Many toenail nippers are too big and awkward to accommodate a small hand. These nippers are sturdy enough to do the job but work with smaller hands too. These are the ideal nippers for trimming toenails on the ground. Toenail trimming techniques are explained in detail in The Camelid Companion.
